Another sunny day the 64's won the toss & chose to bat. Paddy Rathbone & Belinda Wewalage faced the seam of Wilkie & B Taylor. From ball 2 Paddy (0) edged to w/k Brown off Wilkie. In over 4 Belinda (10) was bowled by Taylor.
There followed a pleasing partnership between Tom Oliver & Matty Rathbone of 65 in 16 overs until at 75 Tom (29, 52b, 3x4) full of positive intent, was unlucky to be run out by a direct hit from the extra cover boundary as he returned for a second run ! At the same score Ani Kalluri (0) was caught & bowled by D Taylor (ob) playing too soon, 4 down.
In over 22 Jack Seymour (3) was lbw to D Taylor & at the same score Matty Rathbone (28, 59b 3x4) an enterprising knock, was bowled by Jones, 79-6 after 23 overs. Finn Birtwisle & Tom Young, instructed to bat the full 40 overs, battled defensively for 5 then started to pick up the singles, running well.
The total had reached 99 when Finn (7, 33b) was bowled by Goulding's off spin. In the next over Tom (13, 46b) was caught & bowled by Roberts (ob), two excellent defensive innings in the circumstances. Freddy Mitten (u13) on debut was joined by Manas Kakkar & Manas stroked 12* while Freddy ran good singles until at 122 in the 40th Freddy (6) was caught by Lee off Goulding. Dominic Johnson (0) was bowled with two balls left in the innings, leaving Manas 12*& a total of 122 to defend.
Greensit & Jones were faced by Manas Kakkar & Ani Kalluri. At 20 in the 8th Greensit (9) played on to Ani, 19-1. Dan Taylor showed intent striking Manas for 4 then 6, but in the 11th Jones (6) was well caught by Dominic off Manas, 36-2. Ani a good spell 5-2-13-1. Manas 6-0-23-1.
There followed a match winning partnership of 87 between Dan Taylor & Tiger Roberts as Finn Birtwisle (sla) & Dominic Johnson (ob) sought a breakthrough. Finn 7-0-21-0 & Dominic 6-0-28-0. Tom Young twirled but in over 27 at 104-2, Freddy Mitten damaged a shoulder after one ball & Jack Seymour had to complete his over.
The total was reached after 29.5 overs with Dan Taylor (58* 64b, 5x4,1x6) & Tiger Roberts (31*, 73b, 4x4), Tom 3.4-0-29-0, Jack 1.5 -0-4-0. A spirited performance against experienced opposition.
The 1864's now in the 4th promotion place in Div 5 South on 197 points.
