Century Club Winners

4th Apr 2026
On Sun 29th March 2026, Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club played host to the 29th SNCC Vice Presidents 2010 outing. Peter Crane, Bill Kidd, David Gorton & Mark Dolder sent their apologies.
After the customary bacon/sausage roll & coffee, 5 x3 balls set out at 1145 with a not fully fit DDS walking along with trekking poles trying not to fall over !
Leading off, with a stiff breeze over their left shoulders, were Chris Harker, James Brown & Nigel Campbell. They were followed by Nick Gandy (all the way from Uppingham), Scott & Olly Alexander. Third away were Colin Belfield, Mike Anderson & Howard Sidney Wilmot, then Richard Miller, Graham Bruce, (travelling from Cambridgeshire) & Alan Dickinson. Last away were David Bolam, Garrie Forster & Mike Tait.
Climbing the rise to the second tee the full force of the wind took the breath away. On the greens, balls were blown off the surface!! It seemed the wind gusted less between the 6th & 13th but it veered & at 1515, from the north west, stronger winds blew a torrential downpour for 20 minutes & after 16 holes all made a dash for the clubhouse, absolutely drenched !!
In the circumstances, the scoring was admirable. Leading on 62 points were Colin, Mike & Howard, second on 61 Nick, Scott & Olly, third on 55 jointly were Chris, James & Nigel; David, Garrie & Mike. Richard, Graham & Alan amassed 48 points. (Best two scores to count, Stableford points full handicap).
The warming soup, sandwich & chips were eagerly consumed, some wet clothes were changed. DDS offered grateful thanks to all who had played in the most arduous conditions we have faced on these outings, to Chris for booking the venue, paying the deposit & purchasing the ball prizes & to Garrie for his generosity in offering the winners a complimentary round for 4 at Ramside Hall.
We convene again for outing number 30 at Newbiggin on Sunday 11th October 2026, meeting at 1030, with tees from 1148.
The rapport, camaraderie of old friends, smiles & stories were most evident & a testament to the enduring pleasure such outings bring. We must continue!
May the summer go well for everyone.
Duncan.
