SNCC Midweek X1 won by 3 runs - 10 points, Bomarsund 2.
A tense affair at Bomarsund as the Midweek Bulls won by 3 runs after the first two balls of the last over had yielded 10 of the 14 needed by the home team. But David Cragg kept his nerve & two dots balls ensured a narrow victory.
The Bulls gave debuts to Waheed Safi, Aryan Kalluri & Manas Kakkar in the second game of the midweek open league season. Winning the toss the Bulls chose to bat. Tom Seymour & Will Oliver faced the seam of Asif & Pringle who both bowled 4 over spells.
Will (0), seemingly stuck on the crease, was bowled by Asif in over one. Waheed joined Tom & the pair advanced the scoring with drives down the ground & through cover. At 70 in the 10th Tom called Waheed through for a sharp single but alert w/king saw Waheed (20) run out by a direct hit to the non striker's end.
Aryan Kalluri looked balanced & composed, punching off the back foot through cover as Dreyer & Thain bowled their 4 over spells. But at 85 he drove to midwicket & set off, as non striker, Tom (47, 6x4,1x6), a commanding innings, was beaten by a direct hit to the w/k 's stumps, 95-4.
Aryan (15) was then caught at deep cover targeting the short boundary off Thain. Richard Oliver (10*) & Jack Seymour (3*) scampered, but the 112-4 total after 16 overs felt under par.
In reply Robinson & Haig faced the right arm seam of Matt Williams & Simon West. Haig (4) attacking, played on to Simon in the second over, 8-1. In the 5th Daylan found two yorkers in 3 balls to dismiss Ehan (1) & Hancock (0).
Breeze was driving well but Daylan's accuracy prevented him from accelerating & proved pivotal, 4-0-9-2 was an outstanding spell. Robinson (20) was bowled by Simon, full & straight in the 8th but David Cragg suffered as Breeze drove 2x6 in the 10th.
A little flatter & correcting the length then worked for David as Raffle (13) & Crawford (0) were bowled. In the 14th Breeze (39) swung across the line & was also bowled by David.
A tense last two overs as 28 were needed. A tough time to bowl especially on debut for Manas who took the 13th & 15th. 12 runs required from the last over bowled by David. The first two balls were struck for 6 then 4 but only one more single as David induced two dots to win the game !!.
Onward to Thurs 7th May SNCC Midweek X1 v Morpeth (h) 20/20 from 1800.
We hope you can be there.
