MIDWEEK BULLS PROGRESS IN IAN APPLEBY CUP 8 WICKET WIN OVER CRAMLINGTON.

Mon 29 June 2026: NTCL Ian Appleby Cup Round 1: SNCC v Cramlington (h) 20/20

 

Cramlington 118-6 (20o) F Parker 43, L Wilkinson 29: Danny Collins 1-20, George McConnell 2-18, Simon West 1-15, Daylan Deen-Williams 0-16, George Gray 0-15, Simon Birtwisle 2-20.

 

SNCC Midweek X1 122-2 (13.1o) Ben West 5, Joseph Dresser 19, Tom Seymour 58*, George Gray 27*: J Houmark 0-17, B Skirpin 2-31, R Birch 0-17, S Parker 0-25, M Smith 0-23, D Smith 0-4.

 

SNCC won by 8 wickets.

 

A sunny evening at Roseworth Terrace, the visitors chose to bat . Sewell & Birch faced the left arm seam of Danny Collins & George McConnell. A torrid first over for George but in the third Danny trapped Sewell lbw the ball swinging in nicely from the Park end, 14-1.

 

Danny bowled 4 overs through & Parker took 2, 4 off Simon West in the 6th then 4.4, 2 off Danny in the 7th, the total rising to 41-1. At 48 in the 10th Birch (9) was bowled by Simon West, 2 down.

 

George Gray (ob) & Simon Birtwisle (sla) bowled overs13-16 & in the 16th Parker (43,43b 5x4, 1x6) who had batted well, launched Simon B straight for an apparent 6 to the Grove boundary, only to find the George's converging to pull off a spectacular relay catch as George McC flicked the ball back before he crossed the boundary to George Gray who dived to complete the catch. Bravo !!

 

In the next Jobson (4) was bowled by George McConnell, 91-4. An eventful next over from Birty saw 4 leg byes, 4 byes, 6 & a single ! In the 19th Smith (1) was bowled by George McConnell & in the last over Skirpin (5) bowled by Birty. Cramlington 116-6 after 20 overs.

 

In reply Ben West & Tom Seymour faced Houmark & Skirpin. A boundary & a single to Ben in over 1 but in over 2 he was caught at square leg, top edging a pull, 5-1. Joseph Dresser joined Tom, his back not right to bowl but ok to bat. In the remains of the second over- a wide, 4, a wide, 2 wides, 6 into the carpark, 20 -1 after 2 overs.

 

5 leg byes as the ball hit the w/k helmet then Tom then drove Houmark straight for 3 consecutive boundaries. Singles in the next two overs but in the 6th Joseph (19, 12b 1x4 2x6) was caught in the deep at mid wicket, both wickets to Skirpin.

 

Enter George Gray, the taker of three outstanding catches in his last 3 games, & he & Tom both took boundaries off Birch. Tom then scored a boundary an over for the next 5 overs, square, to mid wicket & straight, as the total mounted, 90-2 after 10 overs.

 

In the 12th George Gray swept S Parker for 6 to the nets & ensured the win with another boundary from  the first ball of the 14th over, 122-2. Tom 58*, (42b 10x4) George G 27* (17b, 3x4 1x6) a comprehensive victory for a team bolstered by talented young legs. 

 

The semi final of the Ian Appleby Cup will be against the winners of Ashington & Percy Main who are yet to play. We must continue.
