Hexham Leazes won by 3 runs- 9 points, SNCC 2.
Rain delayed the start by 30 minutes & made the contest 16 overs/side, a max 4 overs per bowler. The Bulls won the toss & chose to field, accepting that a wet surface & ball
were not ideal.
Holmes & Fitton faced the slow left arm of Danny Collins & right arm seam of Simon West. Fitton (3) was first to go in over 3, edging Danny to w/k Stephen Harper. Holmes was driving down the ground well & no further success was achieved until Tom Seymour persuaded Holmes (43) to play on in over 12.
Gradwell (7) succumbed lbw to one that kept low from Tom in the 14th but Penny (33*) was playing nicely, Daylan suffering a little.
Tom took a third wicket late on as Donnison (12) lobbed to short mid wicket where Matt Williams took the catch.
The Leazes completed their 16 overs on 104-4. The Bulls had fielded well in the conditions.
In drier conditions Ben West & Tom Seymour faced the inswing of Gradwell & leg spin of McDonald. Ben (0) missed straight one first ball of the innings. Danny Collins & Tom consolidated, running well & hitting the bad balls. The total had reached 50 when Tom (22) was adjudged run out.
Danny continued but Will Oliver (1) also missed a straight one from Ross, 3 down. Danny (30) then drove Donnison to short extra cover, the first of 5 wickets for his gentle medium pace.
Leo Harper (1) missed another straight one & Stephen (6) dabbing to the vacant third man area, edged to w/k Penny. Matt Williams (0) was bowled by Donnison & Richard Oliver (10) was run out, 8 down.
Daylan Deen-Williams (12) had batted with intent but he too drove Donnison to short extra cover, 9 down. The equation was 12 runs from 12 balls that became 8 from the last over. Two runs to Simon West, a single, a single to Jack Seymour, a leg bye but the 5th ball, driven back to the bowler by Jack, caused Simon to be run out as he sought to get back on strike.
A pity, glad to have played, but a game that should have been won. This defeat leaves the Midweek Bulls in 8th place on 34 points having played 9.
Duncan.
