MID WEEK BULLS PROGRESS IN IAN APPLEBY CUP. Wed 20 May 2026: NTCL Ian Appleby Cup Prelim Round.

Monkseaton 102-7 (20o) Dom Turnbull 50, Stephen Nicholson 15, John Price 19: Scott Alexander 3-7, Simon West 0-14, Ben West 1-44, Danny Collins 3-26.

 

SNCC 103-2 (16o) Tom Seymour 50*, Danny Collins 32: James Burns 1-40, Jake Lindsay 0-25, Dom Turnbull 0-20, Peter Lovell 1-9, Tom Reevel 0-7.

 

SNCC won by 8 wickets ..........forward to round 1 v Cramlington (by 12 June).

 

The Bulls won the toss & invited the hosts to bat in this rearranged cup tie. The wicket was soft & slow. Success in overs 1 & 3 for Scott Alexander as Tom Reevel (0) was yorked in over 1, both Dave Turnbull (1) & Oliver Minto (0) bowled in over 3 with the score at 7.

 

Dom Turnbull & Stephen Nicholson rebuilt but after 10 overs, 5 each from Scott & Simon, the total was only 31. Ben West (rm) & Danny Collins (sla) took up the attack. Dom Turnbull drove straight nicely but at 35 in the 12th Nicholson top edged a cut & was caught by bowler Danny.

 

Ben suffered as Dom Turnbull drove straight but in the 18th gained his reward as Dom (50), his highest ever score, was bowled aiming to drive, 81-5. In over 18 James Burns (0) was bowled by Danny & in the 20th John Price (19) also bowled by one that crept, Danny 3 wickets of slow left arm. The Monkseaton innings ended at 102-7.

 

The fielding was exemplary, Richard Oliver & Jack Seymour in credit.

 

In reply Tom Seymour & Danny Collins faced the medium pace of James Burns & Jake Lindsay. A fast start - 13 from over 3, 10 from over 4, 14 from over 5 as both batters drove straight or pulled square. 

 

At 56 in the 7th Danny  (32, 5x4, 1x6) was bowled by a Burns in swinging yorker. Tom continued 67 off 10 overs as change bowlers Turnbull & Lovell took up the attack. At 85 in the 14th Manas Kakkar (5) was caught at cover off Lovell. It was left to Tom to strike the winning boundary from the last ball of the 16th over, a comprehensive win by 8 wickets, Tom (50* 6x4 1x6), Aadi (1*).

 

Onward to Round 1 - SNCC v Cramlington (a) tbc but before 12th June.
