LEE CROZIER'S 1000TH 1ST TEAM, LEAGUE WICKET TAKEN AT HETTON LYONS ON SATURDAY 25TH AUGUST 2018

25th Aug 2018

Only the very few have the skill, the fitness, the drive & the sheer persistence to be the best they can be at any sort of sport, so it was a cause for huge celebration on Saturday at Hetton Lyons when Lee Crozier (44) took his 1000th 1st team league wicket.

At 1838, after a rain shower, no 11 Cameron Grimwood, pushing forward, was caught at first slip to give the Bulls an 111 run victory. Lee finished with 3-15 from 4.2 overs. 'Straight breaks' had done it again, although he would say that it had been turning more in 2018 ! Top of the NEPL bowling averages in 2017 & 34 wickets to date in 2018.

An ex SNCC junior, Lee's 1st team career started at Ryton in 1990. 108 wickets there, then to Benwell Hill in the Northumberland County League, 179 wickets & then from 2000 in the NEPL another 129 at the Hill before moving to South North in 2004 & a magnificent 584 since then.

When Lee c & b Tom Hewison at Stockton on Sat 7th July 2018  he recorded his 700th NEPL 1st/Premier Division wicket, the first bowler to achieve this total.

So we salute Lee, marvel at his consistency & wish him well for a little while longer so that he may become South North's all time leading 1st team wicket taker by overtaking John Bradford's current total of 629. He needs 46. The magnificent Mr Crozier !

Duncan.
