Dale fires 2's to Blaydon win

1st May 2019

With rain in the forecast, South North 2ndXI chose to bowl first on a dreary day in Blaydon. The returning James Ruddick (2-18) opened up and had Chris Nichol caught behind on 0, before having opposition captain Bailey Lamb caught at slip by Sam Dale for 9. Michael Reynolds counterattacked and dispatched Allan Davidson (0-24) onto Inti Fazal’s car roof! Youngster Calum Fletcher’s first appearance of the season was cut short as he went over on his ankle two balls into his first over and had to leave the field. This brought spinners Sam Dale (4-10) and Richard Brook (4-14) together and once Dale had bowled Reynolds for a well-made 44, Blaydon crumbled and were all out for 73.

The chased proved to be a simple one despite a testing pitch, with Sam Dale and John Harbottle taking great care for the opening overs. As the promised rain started to fall, Dale accelerated and bludgeoned his way to 42* and hand another win to the 2ndXI, John Harbottle finishing on 30*.

On Saturday the 2ndXI host Whitburn in the league (4 May), before travelling to Shotley Bridge in the Banks Bowl on Sunday (5 May).
