The mid week Bulls chose to bat on a sunny evening at Roseworth Terrace. Seeking to provide opportunities, Joseph Dresser & Ben West faced the seam of Wood & Wright. An opening partnership of 68 ensued in 9.2 overs as both Joseph & Ben struck boundaries to mid wicket, straight or through cover.
In over 10, the ball after hitting a 6 into the car park, Joseph (40. 27b, 5x4 3x6) was caught by Hair at point off the seam of Norris, In the next a repeat as George Gray (8) was bowled by Ashburn one ball after hitting another 6 into the car park !
In the same over a bout of yes/no/yes between Ben & Tris caused Tris Meears-White (1) as non striker to be run out, 79-3. In over 13 Ben hit 2x4 & the 100 came up in the 14th over. Only a little progress in the next three overs as Jack & Ben found it hard to rotate. Then in the 17th Jack's (4) attempted scoop saw him bowled by Ashburn, 110-4.
Tom Seymour crashed 24 from 13 balls (3x4,1x6) until he was stumped in the last over bowled by Symington's off spin leaving Ben West, a commendable 52*( 59b 7x4) with pleasing strokes through cover & straight, to record his first senior 50, & Stephen Harper (1*), 140-5 after 20 overs.
In reply Merryweather & Donkana faced the seam of Simon West & Matt Williams. 25 runs after 4 overs & a missed chance, then in the 5th Merryweather (9) was bowled by a Simon West yorker. In the next Matt Williams enticed a drive from Donkana (19) which was caught by George G at cover, 34-2.
Coetzee & Baston pushed on although Baston was also given a life until at 55 in David Cragg's second over Baston (14) was caught by Daylan at short third man. At the same point Coetzee 11 (rno).
Hair & Symington batted positively & when Daylan pitched short he suffered. At 99 in the 14th Hair (19 (rno) & Coetzee returned. David Cragg (sla) against his old club, bowled a commendable spell of 1-20 from 5 overs & the scores were identical at 103 -3 after 15 overs.
Acceleration came in overs 17 & 18 as George conceded 11 & Daylan 15, 136-3. The winning runs were struck from the second ball of the last over by Symington 35*, leaving Coetzee 41*, a 7 wicket win. The Bulls catching & fielding had not been at its best.
Onward to Thursday 9 July SNCC v Bomarsund (h) hoping to bounce back & climb the table a touch from joint 9th place.
