SNCC won by 17 runs, advance to finals day on Sun 23 August.
Following their Roseworth victory at Shotley Bridge, the target was to achieve another finals day, & it came to pass as the Bulls triumphed at sunny Burnmoor overcoming a tricky wicket & a very dry, bumpy outfield courtesy of some outstanding catching & good fielding as the ball bobbled.
An opening partnership of 50 between Sam Ewart & Ben Hobbs began uncertainly as timing seemed elusive on an wicket that nibbled. At 50 in the 9th set of 5 balls Sam (20,18b, 1x6 2x4) skied Reed to Brown at mid on. In set 12 Ben (39, 34b, 4x4, 1x6) was caught by Thursfield, 68-2.
Angus too had difficulty laying bat on ball initially but settled to strike 24 (26b, 1x6) until he went walkabout in set 19 to be run out, 102-3. Will Phillips had run well & was joined by Will Carr who faced 4 balls & struck 2,1,4,3 (10*) from the only balls he faced & with Will P 19* (18b) the final total of 122-3 seemed only a par score.
But when the dangerous Armstrong (0) swung the opening ball from Will Phillips to deep mid wicket for George to move in & take a very good catch, diving forward, the momentum was with the Bulls.
D Brown dealt harshly with Sam Lee's first set but Danny & George settled into a rhythm conceding only 6 from the next 10 balls. At 28 Guest (10) drove George to Will P at short mid wicket & two sets later D Brown was very well caught by Ben Sid at mid on off Danny, 32-3.
George completed his 20b for only 11 as M Robson & R Brown pushed on. 45-3 after 50 balls & then in Joseph Dresser's second set R Brown drove high to long on where Ben Sid took another smart catch, 56-4. In set 16 Reed (8) repeated the shot to long on where Ben Sid again obliged, 75-5.
N Robson struck a 6 to mid wicket but in set 18 cut Nicky to backward point where Will Carr dived forward to take another good catch, 88-6, advantage Bulls. Despite M Robson's big finish, 3x4 in the last two sets, the home team finished 17 short on 105-6.
A very good win by the Bulls, some excellent catches taken & good ground fielding on a bouncy surface when only two mishaps resulted in boundaries conceded.
Onward to finals day Sun 23rd August at Newcastle City, first semi final from 1030 Newcastle City v Sacriston, second semi final from 1300 Chester-le-Street v SNCC final c 1700.
