Ashington won by 6 wickets- 3 points, SNCC 0.
All three teams in group H had three points but SNCC progress on the better net run rate.
A warm evening at Langwell Crescent, captain Sol Bell won the toss & the Bulls chose to bat. In the absence of Wightman, Cragg, Alexander, Gough & Drissell; Will Phillips, Angus Southern & Will Young were offered opportunities. The batting order reflected the need for time at the crease for Rob Peyton & David Edwards.
As the home team switched bowlers every 5 balls, the opening partnership blossomed to reach 69 after 54 balls when Edwards (35, 27b, 4x4) advanced to the slow left arm of Kothari, missed & was stumped.
Jonny Bushnell (1) was caught by Kothari at backward point off Skinner 4 balls later, 75-2. Chris Hewison joined Rob Peyton (35*) & the pair pushed on accelerating in the last 30 balls hitting 51 runs & lifting the total to 149 after 100 balls. Rob (83*, 57b 9x4 2x6) struck to all parts especially straight, sweeping nicely, Chris 23* (17b 1x4 1x6) a maximum to finish from the bowling of Parkinson.
In reply McCafferty & Kothari were faced by the off spin of Will Phillips & from ball 4 Kothari (0) was caught by Calum at deep square leg top edging a sweep off Will, 1-1 after 5 balls. Ben Harmison & McCafferty then stroked Will Young's first two sets of 5 conceded 25. Oli's first fared no better as Harmison, using his feet well, drove 12 down the hill with 1x6 1x4.
At 61 after 39 balls McCafferty (26) was lbw working to leg, 2 down. McCarthy joined Harmison taking 9 from Will Young's third set & then Harmison 9 plus 4 byes from Oli so 85-2 after 50 balls, ahead of the rate, Ben Harmison 50*.
At 93 at ball 57 McCarthy (13) stroked Will Young off the back foot toward long off Young where Sol made good ground to take the catch, Will Phillips suffered as his next 10 balls conceded 22, 3x4 1x6, all to Harmison down the ground, 118-3 after 70 balls.
Calum & Oli returned conceding 5 then 7 & then with the 83rd ball Gardiner (12) advanced to a slower ball & was stumped by Rob Peyton off Nicky, 136-4 after 83 balls, 17 balls left 13 runs to get, the writing on the wall.
Woolley stroked Calum for 2,4,4 in the next set & Sol finished off conceding 5 after 92 balls. Ben Harmison (81*, 43b 8x4 4x6) who had used his feet &driven straight for 6 effortlessly & Woolley (15* 7b, 3x4) a dynamic ending contribution, a
win for Ashington by 6 wickets.
This left all three teams in Group H with 3 points so net run rate counted. SNCC 0.13, Newcastle 0.02, Ashington -0.16 so the Bulls progress to a Banks Salver 100 ¼ final v Chester-le-Street (a) on Fri 14th Aug from 1800.
