A cloudy, humid day at Seaham, good bowling conditions, the Bulls won the toss & chose to bowl.
Gale (rh) & Shurben (lh) faced the swing of Wightman & seam of Bushnell. A bit of bounce evident from Bushy's end but in over 5 Gale (8) inside edged Wighters & w/k Rob Peyton took a good catch diving to his left, 14-1.
Two overs later Shurben (7) forward, edged Bushnell to George Drissell at second slip, 16-2. Burnham & Allan were watchful. Burnham taking 4,2 off Wightman then 4, 5 (overthrows) as Bushy went for the runout two overs later,
Calum joined the attack in over 11 then in over 12, Allan (9) was caught in the gully by Sol as the ball looped to him off Bushnell, 40-3. Three wickets then fell in 10 balls as R Pattison (0) edged to gully off Bushy for Oli to take the catch. Three balls later Cowell (0) drove to Calum at mid on & in the next I Pattison (0) was caught by OLi at mid on off Bushy, 48-6.
Burnham (28, 30b 4x4) had resisted but at 57 he flicked Calum towards deep mid wicket where Sol made good ground from deep square leg to take the catch, 7 down. Bushy completed his 5 fer in the next as Dale Marshall (4) aiming to leave but edging for Rob to take the catch, 57-8.
Craig Marshall & Jake Pattison resisted for 4 overs as the total moved to 76 when Marshall (14), aimed a big shot off Calum but was bowled, top of middle stump, 76-9. In the 26th Waterson (0) forward but edging to w/k Rob Peyton off Calum to end the innings, 82 all out.
A complete display albeit in helpful conditions, Bushy 5-28, Calum 4-19, Wighters 1-33, 9 catches taken, none dropped.
In reply Chris Hewison & in form Sol Bell faced the right arm seam of Kieran Waterson & Dale Marshall. A maiden but then 4, 2 in over 2 to Sol off Marshall, mid wicket & fine leg. Hewi drove Marshall twice for 4 in over 4 off front & back foot through the covers.. In over 5 Sol stroked Waterson off the back foot trough cover for 4.
8 from the 6th & then a welcome maiden to Waterson in the 7th. 6 from the 8th & 10 from the 9th as both batters drove boundaries. Another 2x4 to Sol in the 1oth to mid on & cover.
Allan (rm) & C Marshall (ob) joined the attack but Hewi drove Allan straight for 2x4. Sol took 2 then 4 of the spin of C Marshall in the 12th sweeping & to mid off. Hewi straight drove Allan for 4 & Sol to mid wicket for 2 in the 13th. Another swept 4 in the 14th to Sol & then in the last Allan was clipped to mid wicket by Sol for the winning runs. Hewi 35* (42b 7x4) Sol 47* (43b 9x4) an excellent, undefeated, opening partnership.
A 10 wicket win in 14.1 overs, 22 points which, given results & unusual circumstances elsewhere, (Bull stopped play at Burnopfield, game abandoned) ensures the Bulls have a 65 point lead after 13 games on 296 points, Burnmoor second on 231, Felling third on 215 , Burnopfield 4th on 212 & next Saturday's visitors Chester-le- Street on 178.
All tough games to come as the holiday season approaches.
