A warm night at Roseworth Terrace, a much changed Bulls gave opportunities to  Sam Ewart, Will Phillips, Angus Southern & Sam Lee. Sol Bell captained, won the toss & chose to bat.

Chris Hewison & Sam Ewart faced the seam of Harry Lumsden & Gavin Paton both from the Grove end, 5 balls in each set from one end. Hewey struck 3x4 in set one to cutting, pulling & driving through cover. In set two Sam (0) was bowled by a full Paton delivery, 14-1 (8b)

In Joe Stuart's first two sets from the Park end, Hewey & Bushy stroked a boundary each through the offside, 26-1 after 20b. Paton returned at the Grove end but suffered as Hewey took 12 then 13 with 6's straight & to mid wicket, 52-1 after 30b.

George Darwood's 10 balls conceded only 14 & Matthew Stewart's spin 19 but that included the wicket of Hewey (52, 28b 7x2 2x6) in destructive mode, caught at deep mid wicket, 77-2. Will Phillips stroked 7 from his first three balls, 85-2 after 50 balls.

Broughton (rm) conceded 8 but in the 12th set Lumsden again suffered as Bushy drove powerfully through cover 3x4, 107 after 60b. In set 13 Will Phillips (14) was lbw to Stewart sweeping, 107-3. Nathan Gough struck 6 to mid wicket, the fielder palming the ball over the rope & Bushy 4 over cover in his next set, 122 after 70b.

Nathan (8) hooking, edged to w/k Doig off Broughton in the next, 125-4. The final 25 balls leaked 48 runs as Bushy & Angus Southern attacked Lumsden, Paton & Joseph Stuart. Bushy 6's to mid wicket & long off, Angus 6 to mid wicket, closing at 173-4 after 100 balls. Bushnell (68*,39b 7x4,2x6), Southern (23*, 14b 1x4 1x6).

In reply Charnley & Cahlin faced the seam of Fletcher (Park) & Lee (Grove). Cal's 10b conceded only 7 including a difficult chance to cover unable to be taken. Sam suffered as Charnley drove &  pulled 13 in his first set.

But in his second set Sam Lee bowled Cahlin (5) aiming to pull, 20-1. Doig pulled 2x4 behind square leg in the same set, 28-1 after 20b. Will Phillips (ob) conceded only 14 in 10 balls as Charnley drove & reversed, 42-1 after 30 balls.

Then 60 after 40 balls as Oli conceded 18. Nathan's first went for a single but then 8 off the next so 69-1 after 50 balls, on par.

Importantly, Sam struck again in set 12 as Charnley (49, 34b 10x4) looking to nudge, was bowled, 79-2. In Nathan's next Doig (28,21b 4x4) picked up sweetly but straight to long leg where Oli took a good catch on the boundary.

Sam conceded 13 in his last set but Oli bowled Yoilden (13) sweeping in the 15th & followed up in the 17th by bowling Lumsden (9) & trapping Dawson(0) lbw first ball, 110-6. Paton stroked 2x4 off Nathan but Cal's final 10 balls conceded only 9, a win by 41 runs.

The ground fielding was good & although some half chances were unable to be converted these did not prove crucial.

Onward to Fri 31st July, SNCC v Ashington (a) from 1800, the second game in the Banks Salver 100 three-team group.

We hope you can be there.

Duncan.
