2s win at Tynemouth in the Roseworth and at Ashington in the League

Tues 31st May Roseworth Trophy round 1 v Tynemouth (a) 20/20.

Tynemouth 122-4 (20o) Dan Thorburn 23, Ben McGee 47, Anthony Turner 26: Patrick hatcher 2-22., Jacob McCord 0-19, Sadiq Khan 1-23, Ben Hobbs 1-23, James Ruddick 0-20.

SNCC 125-3 (19.3o) James Ruddick 31, Alex Weetman 50*, Sadiq Khan 11, Angus Southern 11*: Neil Bennett 1-21, Sam Robson 1-15, Chris Beever 1-19.

SNCC won by 7 wickets

The rain in Gosforth​ had not travelled to the coast & conditions were dry for this Roseworth Trophy 1st round match at Preston Avenue. The home team were asked to bat. Thorburn & McGee began well putting on 49 for the first wicket against tight bowling from Hatcher & McCord before Thorburn (23) edgedHobbs behind to w/k Ewart. Hull-Denholm(8) was bowled by Sadiq at 64.

Two ​catches & two possible run outs were squandered but at 109 opener McGee (47) was bowled by the returning Hatcher. In the same 19th over, at 111 Turner was caught behind by Ewart. Robson hit a 6 in the last over & the innings ended at 122-4.

​In reply, Ruddick & Weetman got ahead of the rate against the seam bowlers, James dominating with 31 (21b, 4x4) until he ws caught by Walton off Bennett at 45. Sadiq (11) at 3 hit one 6 but holed out attempting another with the score at 83, Alex 24. At 101  Nick (4) was caught by Walton off Robson.

​Weetman progressed nicely in company with Angus Southern, the latter surviving a maiden 19th over, to secure the win with 2,1 to Alex then 4 to Angus over mid wicket, to win with three balls to spare. Alex 50* (55b, 1x4, 1x6) Angus 11* (16b 1x4)

​The next round is v Newcastle (h) on a date tbc.

Ashington 111ao (26o) Greg Wlliams 26, Michael Levison 39: James Ruddick 5-46, Ben Hobbs 0-28, Sadiq Khan 1-18, Jacob McCord 0-13, Will Alexander 4-5.

SNCC won by 113 runs - 27 points, Ashington 3

SNCC were asked to bat, a short leg side boundary​ towards the road. Ruddick was bowled third ball of the first over by Potts with some inswing. Potts & Storey in tandem bowled 10 overs for 34 & in the 11th, Potts had Charnley (7) lbw, 35-2.

Rutherford's sla was hard to get away, Tomlinson & Weetman taking 3's per over, 55 after 20 overs. In the 23rd Tomlinson  (32) was adjudged run out by Elliott's direct hit. Weetman & Southern continued nicely until at 101, in the 32nd , Alex (31) hit a catch to backward point off Potts. Two overs later, Fletcher attacking, (13) played on to Potts, 118-5.

Alderson's leg spin then took two wickets as first Southern, a well crafted 31, was caught by w/k Williams & then Ewart (5) caught by Thewlis at cover, 131-7 in the 42nd. The innngs then turned, Sadiq Khan & Jacob McCord, playing proper shots, ran well attacked when the opprotunity arose, hit 7 x 6 in putting together a magnificent partnership of 84 for the 8th wicket. This only ended in the 52nd over at 215 when Jacob skied Rutherford towards mid wicket where Alderson took the catch. Jacob (40 2x4, 3x6), Sadiq ended 52* (51b, 1x4, 4x6) in the company of Will Alexander; 224-8 declared after 54 overs.

Ashington's reply was frenetic & explosive, 26 off two overs as Hobbs & Ruddick suffered at the hands of Williams & Levison. At 37 in the 4 th Williams (26) &, late for work, was bowled by Ruddick. At 51 in the 6th Thewlis was caught by Hobbs at ​backward point off Ruddick. At 64 in the 10th first Alderson (6) was lbw to Ruddick & 2 runs later, Potts (1) was caught by w/k Ewart off James. A 5 fer beckoned & Robinson (5) duly obliged when he was lbw to Ruddick in the 14th over, 75-5, James 5-46.​

Sadiq was bowling his leg breaks nicely & it was he who persuaded Storey (8) to top edge a sweep to be caught by Will Alexander, 94-6. At 104 opener Levison (39) pulled Will Alexander towards mid wicket where Sadiq palmed up & then caught the well struck shot. At 108 in the 24th, Alexander bowled Rutherford (0) 104-8 & in his next, Will bowled Walker & Tait with the 5 th & 6th deliveries  to end the innings at 111 after only 26overs. Will 3-1-5-4. 

5 th in Division 2 with 126 points. The next game is on Sat 11th June away to Benwell Hill.
