The 2nd X1 began their Banks Bowl defence with a 5 wicket win at Felling on Sunday 6th May with only 10 players, Felling kindly allowing a substitute fielder. The home team chose to bat & despite runs from opener Witherspoon (22) & number 3 Khan (20), subsided to 71 all out thanks to an inspired spell of spin from Matt Whitty who returned 6-5 in 6.2 overs after Weetman & Skinner had made the initial breakthrough.
In reply, skipper Michael Harbottle gave those who had yet to bat an opportunity & James Ruddick & Bobby Green put on 21 for the first wicket. Some indifferent shots saw this become 45-5 before Calum Fletcher( 9*) & Matt Whitty (19*) steadied the ship with a partnership of 26 & a comfortable victory in 17.4 overs.
The next round is against Benwell Hill at Denton Bank on Sunday 27th May.
