1864s lose by 6 wickets to Hexham Leazes

8th Sep 2019

Batting first the 1864s found themselves 7 for 3 in the 5th over. Not the best start!! A 46 run partnership between Dave Harbottle and Lee Charnley steadied the ship. But 3 wickets fell quickly. 65 for 6 after 22 overs. Alan Roskilly and Trudy Johnson put on 23 for the 7th wicket. Then a nice partnership of 33 between Trudy and Alexander Charnley (both under 13s) took the score to 121. Trudy was unlucky to be given out LBW for her top score in senior cricket of 19. Alexander finished on 19 not out as the 1864s were all out for 131.

When batting Hexham lost their first wicket with the score on 12 but a 70 run partnership for the 2nd wicket effectively took the game away from the 1864s . The winning runs were scored in the 31st over. 134 for 4.  2 wickets for David Cragg and one each for Atul Ramesh and Ben Sid. Trudy again bowled well conceding only 7 runs in 3 good overs.

A very young side can be proud of their efforts against a good Hexham side. But a few more senior players to balance the side would be useful!!

One game left on 14 September against Newton at Matfen.
