1864s lose against joint league leaders

30th Jun 2019

Haltwhistle away is always a daunting fixture and the 1864s went there with a depleted side.

The 1864s lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. Haltwhistle got off to a steady start and after 10 overs had reached 45 for 1. They were looking to accelerate when the second wicket went down. Against a side who had twice scored over 300 this season the 1864s stuck at it and can be proud of their efforts in the field. Sree Kanakala bowled very well and in his 8 overs took 3 for 28 including the wicket of the Haltwhistle captain who can be a destructive batsman. Well done also to Trudy Johnson who can be proud of her 4 overs and figures of 1 for 10. Haltwhistle finished their innings on 202 for 8.

In their reply the 1864s soon lost a wicket and Eashan Ragbir went off hurt after taking a nasty hit in the unmentionables. Wickets fell regularly and Haltwhistle were looking to bowl out the 1864s to secure maximum points. Eashan had returned to the field when 7 wickets were down and batted sensibly to finish on 23 not out. Trudy kept him company for 7 overs scoring an invaluable 11 which helped secure an extra batting point.  The 1864s ended on 121 for 9. Haltwhistle were denied full points and as a result lost joint top place in the league.

Another defeat but a courageous and tenacious performance with bat and ball.

Next game away Belsay who are bottom of the league without a win all season. Let's  do it!!
