Wylam won by 1 wicket- 19 points, SNCC 1864's 7.

On a dry wicket the 1864's were invited to bat. Belinda Wewalage & Richard Cliford faced the lm of R Young & rm of Jackson. Six runs to Belinda in over 1 but variable bounce, spin & accurate bowling, meant scoring was difficult. 30-0 after 8 & at 36 in the 12th, Clifford (6) was caught by Wilson at mid on.

In the 17th Oliver Young (6) was caught by Cantrell off the slow bowling of Paton. Drinks at 20 overs saw the total at 51-2, tough going against an accurate attack on a wicket with variable bounce. Belinda 27* several near misses, but still there!

Jan, captain in Patrick's absence, (6) was caught at short mid wicket off Howard at 68. Belinda accelerated & had reached a deserved 56 (81b,6x4) when he edged to slip off Jackson, 95-4 in the 28th. Guy & George progressed the score nicely to 121 in the 33rd when George (11) was caught in the deep off Young, 121-5. George's straight drive is an eye catching shot.

Guy had taken a liking to Cantrell but the latter had Josephine (1) caught at slip. Guy 36 (34b,6x4), who had batted well again, was caught by Wilson off Young, 132-6 in the 35th. Aaron Rostron (5) scampered singles before being lbw to Cantrell & George Gray (0), attacking, was caught off the same bowler leaving Will Young (1*) & David Cragg (0*) to see out the 40 overs at 139-9. Given the unpredictability of the wicket, a good effort, 150 had been the aim.

M Wilson & Howard faced Josephine rm & David Cragg's sla. In over 2 David had Wilson (1) caught by w/k Belinda & two balls later bowled D Teasdale (0), 6-2, then a rain shower took the players from the field.

On resumption, in over 6, Cragg bowled Howarth (0) 13-3. J Teasdale & R Wilson were positive & took the score to 37 in the 11th When J Teasdale (10) was lbw to Josephine, 4 down. Richard Clifford & George Gray bowled overs 13-20 & Wilson 35 (27b,5x4) hit both shifting the momentum, until a stunning c & b by Richard, one handed falling to his right on follow through from a firm drive, dismissed him, 68-5.

George suffered as Jackson attacked & at drinks the total was 92-5. The ground fielding had been good although 3 or 4 chances were unable to be taken. Two wickets fell at 101, Paton (17) was caught by Belinda off Will Young from the 4th ball of his first over & then Jackson (24) was bowled by Josephine, 101-7 after 23 overs.

The score rose to 124 in the 29th when Young (9) edged behind from George McConnell's first ball, Belinda's 4th catch, 121-8, becoming tense for the home side, only 6 runs in 4 overs as they inched their way to the target. In George's 3rd, number 10 Worthington (12) took a blow to the head through the helmet grill as a ball reared dramatically, & fell onto his stumps, hit wicket, 135-9.

After a stoppage, singles to Japes & 1 to last bat Cantrell, saw the score tied after over 34. From the first ball of the 35th, Japes struck a boundary to seal a tense win. Will 5-0-14-1, George McC 3.1-1-15-2, most creditable. Overall, the spirit remained high, the fielding was good, 10 no balls & 4 wides to eradicate if at all possible. The batting of Belinda, Guy & George McC to commend & all the bowlers under pressure at the end & almost getting there. Not easy to bat on such wickets.

7 points for the 64's who retain 6th place in WTL Division 1. The next match is on Sat 30th July v Belsay (h). We hope you support them at Greenside.

Duncan.
