Corbridge won by 39 runs- 29 points, SNCC 1864 7.

Availability difficult at the end of the season so a breezy day at Corbridge welcomed a nine player 1864's, kindly augmented by Chris Mee to field ten. The hosts won the toss & chose to bat. Walker & Smith faced the right arm seam of both Elliott Mee & Will Carr.

Front foot no balls bedevilled Elliott, wides Will & byes Matty such that the total had reached 41 from 10 overs. The fielding had been good throughout which was pleasing.

In over 11 Zainab (rm) began a spell of 5 overs & in the 5^th of these she took the wicket of Smith (18) aiming to dab but edging to Will at slip, 63-1. 1-16 from 5 overs, a good return for her.

Belinda had also begun a spell & in his third Craig (1) drove  catch to Paddy at short mid wicket, 68-2 at drinks.

Three overs later Walker (29), who had survived numerous lbw appeals, succumbed to Elliott lbw, 78-3. In the next Tiffin G (2) swung Belinda onto the legside but was very well caught by Elliott on the deep mid wicket boundary over head height, stunning ! 83-4.

Dominic's 3 overs of off spin were wicketless but Tom Young (lb) bowled N Tiffin (16) round his legs in over 29, 104-5. Tom would go on to account for the next 4 wickets, 3 bowled, 1 run out.

In his second Charlton (12) was beaten in the flight & bowled, 111-6. In his third over two wickets as Palmer (9) was bowled sweeping & next ball Chomse (0) was bemused & bowled117-8.

Zainab & Will returned but Jowsey upped the tempo with 2x4 in over 36 & 6 in over 37. Then in in the next Jowsey (10), as non striker, was run out as Tom Young's accurate throw from backward point to w/k Matty defeated his forlorn effort, 152-9.

The innings closed at 163 after 40 overs. A creditable effort from the 64's, all had bowled nicely, Tom's flight bemusing batters intent on attack, 4-15 an excellent return. Sadly 37 extras were conceded including 14 byes & 14 wides ! The hosts eventual winning margin was only 39 runs !

In reply Will Carr & Belinda Wewalage faced the seam of Chomse & Jowsey. A steady start  Belinda striking 4 in the opening over & Will 2x4 in over 2 to cover & backward point, 9 runs from the 7^th as the total rose to 30 without loss after 9 overs.

Then in the 10^th Belinda (18 31b 3x4), aimed a big shot to leg, & was adjudged lbw to Jowsey. Two overs later Will (19, 34b 3x4) clipped Jowsey hard to short mid wicket where N Tiffin held a very good catch, 39-2.

There followed the best partnership of the innings between Elliott & Matty. Change bowers Craig (rm) & Wood (rm) entered the attack in overs19 & 20. 67-2 at halfway drinks as Elliott plundered 2,4,1 & Matty 2.

Then at 82 in the 24^th Matty (10) connected well behind square off Wood & set off, but straight to a fielder who returned promptly. Elliott was unmoved & Matty's retreat failed to beat the throw to the w/k, 82-3.

This was the start of the loss of 5 more wickets in 4 overs. Elliott (33, 42b 3x4) had again batted nicely but pulled to Charlton at mid wicket off Wood. A wide followed & then Paddy (0) was caught by Tiffin at mid wicket.

Another wide followed & Alice (0) was then surprised by a full  delivery that bowled her. In the next over Zainab (3) was bowled sweeping Craig, 90-7. Dominic (6) succumbed in the next, the 30th, mistiming a drive toward mid on off Smith, 105-8.

Chris Mee, enjoying his debut, then played some lovely drives, stroking 3x4 straight, to mid on & to cover before he too fell attempting to attack, bowled by Smith at 124 in the 34th.

A creditable effort by a young side. Some lessons for the future, avoid the extras & always try to bat the overs if you can !

A 7th place finish in NTCL Div 5 South for the 64's on 380 points (p22, w11, l 8, c'd 1, ab 1, conceded 1) giving opportunities to 30 juniors. We give grateful thanks to them, to Aadi & Paddy who captained many of the games & to all those who supported & scored for the team.

Onward to the SNCC Awards Night on Sat 19^th Sept in the Indoor Center from 1830 to celebrate a successful club season & to reiterate our thanks. We hope to see you there.
