SNCC 1864 93-2 (11.4o) Belinda Wewalage 16, George Gray 71*: C Charlton 0-29, F Burrows 1-25, J Craig 0-18, C Jowsey 1-31.

 

SNCC 1864 won by 8 wickets - 30 points, Corbridge 2.

 

A sunny day at Belsay, the visitors won the toss & chose to bat. Fairhurst & Craig faced the brisk off breaks of George Gray & the left rm medium of Tom Oliver. A wicket for Tom in over 2 as Fairhurst (2) skied an attempted drive to cover where Dominic took the catch, 4-1

 

Slow progress, only 15 after 7 overs but 10 from Tom's 4th saw Matthew enter the attack & in his third the 11th, Craig (22) flicked towards George Gray at midwicket who took the catch low to his right, 36-2. N Tiffin stroked 3x2 from Matthew's third but in the next Elliott persuaded N Tiffin (6) to sky to point where Rayan took a neat catch, 45-3.

 

At 62 in the 19th Elliott caught & bowled G Tiffin (8) holding onto a firm drive on follow through. In Rayan's third over Brown (0), on the crease, played on off a pad, 65-5. Three maidens in 5 overs as Rayan, Elliott & George G attacked & then in the 29th Walker (18, 86b 2x4) , aiming to force Matthew off  the back foot, found Rayan at point, 78-6.

 

In  the next Crewdson (8) sliced a pull skying to cover where George McConnell took the catch off George Gray, 78-7. In Matthew's next Jowsey (0) drove hard off the back foot to the bowler where Matthew took a good catch, 80-8.

 

Charlton (1) launched Dominic towards deep mid wicket in the 32nd over & George Gray ran hard along the boundary edge to take a superb one handed catch at full tilt in front of the clubhouse !! Catch of the season contender an told !

 

Finally Matthew took his deserved 4th wicket when Burrows (10) missed a straight one, Corbridge 91 all out in the 35th over. Matthew 4-23, his best of the season.

 

In reply Aadi & Belinda faced the seam of Charlton & Burrows. Aadi (1) edged to fly slip in the second over 14-1. Belinda struck 2x4  & then another in the 3rd. In the same over George Gray  stroked 4,4,2,1.

 

A cover drive off Burrows in the next  & then 6.6.4.1 to deep square leg to George as Burrows suffered, 54-1 after 6 overs. At 61 in the 8th Belinda (16) swept Jowsey but the ball looped up off pad & gloves to be taken by w/k C Tiffin, 61-2.

 

George then took 4.4.4 1 off Craig to deep square leg, mid wicket & cover. Another square drive in the next , George McConnell took two singles but in the 12th George G drove to deep mid wicket & straight 6,4,4 to win the game after o11.4o.

 

George Gray 71* (47b 10x4 3x6) George McConnell 2*. A chanceless innings from George G full of powerful strokes & good placement.

 

£0 points leaves the 64's in 4th place in Div 5 south on 227 points one behind Greenside in third, two behind Stamfordham in second & 30 behind leaders Annfield Plain.
