Ashes winning captain and broadcaster Michael Vaughan entertained a sold out South North CC Sportsmans Dinner on Thurs 10 May. Interviewed by our very own Adam Heather, Vaughan spoke for just under an hour and entertained with recollections of his playing career and ‘other incidents’ of note!

Following coffee and a bacon sandwiches, seven 3 balls, randomly selected from low, middle and high handicaps, set out a little later than planned, but encountered forward tees, perfect lies, generous fairways and idyllic conditions!

Making their VP golfing debuts were David Bradshaw, Adam Critchley, Nick Gandy and

Tris Meears-White.  Stableford points, best two to score was a blessing for the ‘casuals’ and at the end of the 18 holes,  Dave Thompson / Nick Gandy / Mike Tait; Adam Critchley / Alan Dickinson /

David Cockerill and Chris Wass / Lee Crozier / Duncan Stephen all amassed 77 points!!

They were followed by Chris Harker / David Gorton / Clive Goatman (72), Simon Dickinson /

Andrew Wilson / James Brown (71), Nigel Campbell / Dave Martin / Tris Meears –White (67) and

John Hammill, Chris Campbell / David Bradshaw (66).

Soup and sandwiches and news of Newcastle’s early goals completed a lovely day.

We are indebted to Andrew Wilson, a member at Burgham Park, for arranging the golf, the weather and the entertainment provided by the commentator at the Burgham Horse Trials, a few fields away!

Our next outing is at The Bridle Path on Sunday 1July 2012, for which there are already 17 nominees

(24 max).  A social gathering will take place on Sat 30June 2012 at the club, details to be announced.

The Sporting Dinner takes place on Thursday May 10May 2012 which is now sold out. There is the opportunity to watch cricket at DCCC on either Sun 3June (40 overs), Sun 17 June (T20) or Sun 22 Aug (40 overs).

The autumn outing is likely to be Sun 7 Oct 2012 hopefully at a course within easy travelling distance. Nigel Campbell is investigating Newcastle City. If you have a suggestion for future events or courses we should play, please say.

VP subs of £15 are now due, many thanks to those who have already responded. Memorabilia of any sort is still sought to help DDS in his ‘History of SNCC’ project. A collective ‘do you remember ’ session by decade is being contemplated for the 70’s, 80’s 90’s and NEPL
