Season Report U15's Red Team

The U15 red team had a pretty good season. They finished second in the league, losing crucially to Ashington at home in game where we managed to clutch defeat out of the jaws of victory. We did however win the Northumberland cup following a difficult draw which meant that we had to defeat Tynedale and Ashington on our way to the final against Seaton Burn. As county cup winners we then progressed into the national stages of the competition. Following a convincing victory against the Scottish champions (Grange CC) ,which had seen us play 3 cup ties in 4 days, we then  lost to Chester-le Street CC (Durham County Champions) in an excellent match.

In the North East Premier League competition we managed to win all 3 games that we played and were well set to progress to the final. However, unfortunately our wonderful summer ensured that this year’s competition ended up being postponed. Congratulations to Ryan Sidney-Wilmot and Mayank Banerjee who both scored 50’s in this competition with other notable innings from James Carding, Dan Jacques and Scott Gibson. Bowling wise Ifftikhar Fazal led the way and was well supported by Owen Hollins, Cameron Mackay and Michael Shotton.

Whilst there were many excellent performances throughout the season, there were two players who deserve a special mention here. Michael Shotton captained the side with great maturity and bowled with considerable guile and consistency through out the season. He won the season’s bowling averages as well as being the team’s leading wicket taker. James Carding batted with impressive authority and skill. Remarkably he was “not out” in every game of our cup run, scoring four 50s (retired) along the way. His season batting average was over 100. Congratulations to both players.

The other pleasing aspect was the exciting development of a number of players. Some of these cricketers began the season on the periphery of red team selection but became important members of the squad. This list includes: Owen Hollins, Dan Jacques, Andrew Doig and Allan Davidson. As the season progressed, team selection for the reds became increasingly difficult and this is, of course, a healthy indication of the club’s strength in depth in this age group.

Our champagne moment for the season occurred in the game against Ponteland where Owen Hollins had the impressive figures of 3-2-1-5 including a hat trick (all bowled).

Congratulations to all of our U15s who played county and further representative cricket this season. These are: Mayank Banerjee, Iftikhaar Ul Haq Fazal, Ryan Sidney-Wilmot, Xavier Taylor, James Carding, James Moon and Cameron McKay.

Season report 2008 – Under 15 Blues

It was a mixed season from the point of view of the results - 5 games lost and 4 won. But a couple of the defeats came in the last over. If they had only managed to score a few more runs they would have won those games.

The spirit in the team was tremendous. They worked hard for each other and seemed to enjoy themselves. Dan Jacques was the top scorer with 92 runs and Allan Davidson was the top wicket taker with 10. Owen Hollins and Ben Harris both took 5 wickets in a game. Andrew Doig kept wicket most of the season and did really well.

The players and their parents deserve a lot of credit for travelling some distances for away games starting at 18.00 on a Monday evening. Everyone turned up even when they were called on to play at the last minute. Rory Davidson appeared 5 times for the team as an under 11 and was pleased to score his first under 15 run. He was less pleased when he was run out next ball.

Charles Anderson and Richard Clifford captained the side during the season. Thanks to them for their efforts and their help in warming up the players before games.

I enjoyed acting as the team manager. The lads were really good company and made the job very easy. I hope that volunteers come forward next season. Without a team manager there is no game. And the lads deserve their cricket.

Thanks to John Dodds for his unstinting efforts to get pitches playable. Thank you to Nicky Phillips and Martin Speight for their coaching.
