2007 Season Review
2007 was a season of mixed results for a relatively young U15‘s side at times. In the league they finished mid table and with a bit of luck ought to have won at least another couple of games. Batting wise Adam Clenton and Jamie Carding both scored 50’s and Mayank Banerjee and Xavier Taylor both managed to score 40’s. As far as the bowling goes Mayank Banerjee bowled very well and was ably supported by Michael Shotton and Iftikhar Fazal, however the most startling figures belong to Ryan Sidney-Wilmot of 1.4-0-4-4 against Newcastle City.
Our success of the year was in the Portman Cup where we reached the area final. A young side progressed us through the earlier rounds where again Jamie Carding performed with the bat scoring 49 in one game. The semi final proved to be a tense affair as the boys were involved in a bowl out against Newcastle City which we won 3-1. The final was against Tynemouth where with a slightly older side we scored 103-8 with Mark Ball top scoring with 28. Tynemouth were bowled out for 64 with Mayank, Michael and Ryan sharing 7 wickets between them. Our next round was an area final away at Penrith where we lost by 18 runs but truthfully it was a game we could have won.
The summer was finished off by playing in the NEPL during the holidays we won 2 out of 3 games played narrowly losing the last game which would have taken us into the final. Notable performances were by John Harbottle with scores of 53 and 86 along with some miserly bowling and Sam Jobson who scores of 34 ,60 and a brilliant 104 in 20 overs against Gateshead Fell. Bowling wise Mayank bowled well and Iftikhar with not much luck but our two spinners Kurran Dhugga and Michael Shotton accounted for 10 of the 20 wickets to fall in the 2 games we won with Michael returning 4-27 against the fell.
Hopefully next year we will be able to field a more settled team which will result in a much better performance in the league.
I would like to thank Mick Clark and Paul Carding for umpiring, Nicky for his behind the scenes help and all parents for lifts and providing players at short notice. Finally the side was generally captained by Michael Shotton who did an admirable job with an ever changing side.
